Cold War Missile Silo Blast Door
Made by U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (attributed)1962United States
A massive riveted steel blast door from a decommissioned Cold War missile launch facility owned by the collector. Doors of this class weighed several tons and were engineered to protect the silo crew and missile from nearby nuclear detonation. Most launch facilities were imploded or flooded under arms-control agreements; surviving doors in situ are scarce pieces of nuclear-age infrastructure.
