About the Collection
The actor has collected manual typewriters since buying his first at nineteen, and now owns more than 250 machines — Olivettis, Hermes, an Arabic-script Erika from Morocco, a Cyrillic-script Olympia from Russia — a selection of which was exhibited as 'Some of Tom's Typewriters' (The Guardian). His book Uncommon Type grew out of the collection.
Custodianship Philosophy
"Everything you type on a typewriter sounds important, because the machine makes you commit."
